Flee to be FREE

I left my home to be in a safer place hundreds of kilometers away.

I arrived alone and fearful in a city where only three people knew where I was and one was the estate agent.

Noone else knew, not my family or my friends, that was important for their safety.

After settling in, I was exhausted and fell asleep quickly.

I woke up knowing that I couldn't move -

A wave of terror washed through me.

A dreadful feeling of paralysis and a heavy weight held me down.

I tried to gather my thoughts.

It's a door, an ancient studded door so dark it was black, lying over my body.

Breathe, breathe!

My eyes aclimatised and I saw a tiny flapdoor close to my hand.

I reached my finger out and pushed on the flap.

A sharp shaft of light pours in and I push a little more, reaching my finger as long as it would reach opening the flap all the way.

How does one get out of that small space? but I suddenly know, and I pour myself through the mail flap towards the light and fly out, up and over meadows of colorful wildflowers, the warm sun on my face.

.....and then I awoke to a new start
